Stem Cell Research

Medical research using stem cells or fetal tissue is a very misunderstood issue. Most people still do not realize that medical advances can be made without ending the life of a developing human being. Choosing to sacrifice one human being to benefit the life of another is wrong.

North Carolina Right to Life (NCRTL) opposes embryonic stem cell research (ESCR) and using tax dollars to pay for ESCR.  Embryonic stem cell research requires that a living human being at the earliest stages of development be destroyed in order to harvest stem cells.

NCRTL supports Adult Stem Cell Research (ASCR) and the use of tax dollars to fund ASCR. ASCR uses stem cells found in cord blood, the patient’s own body, etc., which does not require the destruction to human life. ASCR does not have the ethical concerns implicit with Embryonic Stem Cell Research.
