5th Annual Essay Contest
 

Topic: Human Cloning... Why Congress Must Act

A Senate bill sponsored by Brownback and Landrieu which is pending before the U. S. Congress seeks to ban human cloning. For the sake of protecting newly created life, this legislation must be passed immediately.

Essay must be pro-life and fully developed. Minimum requirements are: Typed and at least 5 paragraphs in length, sources properly documented, proper use of grammar and correct punctuation.

All schools are invited to hold an essay contest during the fall. Display your entries in your school and then send the top 3 essays in each division to the NCRTL Essay Contest competition.

Individual student entries are also welcome.

Winners in each division, grades 7-9 and 10-12, will receive a $100 savings bond.

Guidelines: Competition is open to student of all ages in grades 7-12 enrolled in public, private, religious, and home schools throughout the state of North Carolina. Essays must be approximately 500 words and must be typed, double spaced using 12 pt. type. The essay must reflect an unequivocally pro-life position. Additionally, the essay must include a bibliography and footnotes. Students are encouraged to use information from pro-life sources, particularly pro-life web sites such as the web site for The National Right to Life Committee (www.nrlc.org), Do No Harm Coalition (www.stemcellresearch.org), etc. Each student's name, age, grade, name of school, parent's name, address and phone number as well as teacher's name must be typed or printed clearly on reverse side of each entry.

Criteria: Winning entries will be selected on the basis of the relationship of essay to the theme, originality and clarity of expression, thoroughness and accuracy of research, adherence to guidelines, and use of appropriate writing styles, bibliography and footnotes.

We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not observe these requirements.

Mail entries to : NCRTL, P. O. Box 9282, Greensboro, NC 27429-0282. All entries become the property of North Carolina Right to Life. Entries must be delivered or postmarked no later than November 30, 2006. No C.O.D.s. Awards will be announced January 13, 2007, in Raleigh, NC at the 8th Annual Prayer Breakfast for Life at the Brownstone Hotel.
